This weekend I am finally reconfiguring the batteries on the boat. The two new Optima starting batteries have arrived. We sponsored a photo cruise on Boca Ciega Bay with the Dolphin Cruising Club on Saturday, April 23. Five boats braved 18 knot winds with gusts to the high 20's. It proved to be a bit of challenge to keep sails full AND take pictures at the same time. We later met on Pelican, downloaded our photos and burned CDs. I spent the weekend recarpeting Pelican. The old carpeting was very ugly and badly worn indoor/outdoor. Since we use a dehumidifier on the boat, we think we can get away with a nice berber. The installation has turned out o.k. so far and looks much better than before.

We happily put the boat back in the water and brought her home after two weeks in the yard. We are now nearly finished with the major maintenance. August 22 maiden voyage. 11 people on a three hour cruise including the Lundeens and Larson family and friends. Not much wind, but we managed to get the sails up and pretend to sail for a bit.

Sails are off. Bimini packed away. All the heavy duty line we have on her. Waiting. Winds could reach 120 MPH and tides could be as high as 15' above normal.

Taken before Hurricane Charley is expected to hit. We have reduced windage as much as we could. She is waiting with bare poles and 12 three-quarter inch lines fastening her to the slip. Of course, it won't do any good if the expected 15' storm surge happens. We are hoping for the best.

I ordered the following from SailNet today: 1. 7" Dome Light for Aft Head 2. Teak Liquid Soap holder for galley. If we like it we'll get a couple more for the heads. 3. 5 Folding Mast Steps -- four to get up the mast to attend to the mainsail, and one for the galley. 4. New toggle switch for the aft cabin light 5. 2 new clear lenses and 5 new portlight gaskets.

I did a pretty good estimate of the distance from Mar Marina in Tarpon Springs to our dock through Pass-A-Grille Channel and come up wiht 38.9 NM. At 6.5 knots that's six hours transit time.
